Rodney was not the typical biker – judging by his clean shave, tattoo-less arms and his freshly washed head of hair, that is. He did not look one bit a kill-or-be-killed gangster, but for the statement leather jacket that seemed a staple in every biker’s wardrobe. Rumor has it he was a heartbreaker what with his impossibly good looks, ripped-just-right body and his swagger. Honestly, I didn’t mind being part of the ratio of heartbroken girls.
It was love at first sight. He drove past me in his Harley – I just assumed, I don’t know much about electric bikes CA, or anywhere else for that matter – and I knew he was the one. I would never love again, I remember gushing dreamily to my best friend Cass. She did much eye-rolling and muttering-under-her-breath as I described my biker-god of a crush. He had a strong, muscular body but despite his size, he rode his electric bike CA with such ease and grace. I can only assume he rides his bike all around town, of course. His long tousled hair fell like soft waves on his broad shoulders when he took off his dark tinted helmet. It wasn’t the perfect head of hair that blew me away but the face fit for a demi-god no less. Hiding such face under a helmet should be a crime. His eyes had an odd dead gray color – cold and piercing; able to see right through my soul. All this I was able to make out at a rather lengthy distance, mind you.
Project Rodney officially commenced. I was determined to make my existence known to him, to not make our relationship a one-sided affair. My knowledge about electric bicycle motor kits was next to zero so small talk was clearly not my best option. I chose to go for the whole biker chick look instead, persuading Cass to help me with the makeover, the total overhaul. At the mall I hoarded all things leather – jackets, skirts, riding pants, chappies, vests, leg warmers, arm gloves and ringer gloves. I got accessories as well – bandanas, sunglasses, sunglass cords, do-rags, face masks, neck warmers, studded necklaces, belt buckles and sterling silver rings. I had the biker chick look down pat; I just needed to brush up on my bike knowledge.
“Live to ride, ride to live” was basically the bikers’ creed. The salesclerk at Ebike Motors smiled suggestively as he quoted. Biking is a whole lifestyle, one that is hard to achieve. There are very few people who can actually live up to the said creed. The lifestyle is all about freedom – free to travel dirt roads, free to go anywhere. Because there are people and situations that tie us down – families, friends, and jobs – we aren’t able to live that freely. Living the lifestyle meant driving all around the country, sleeping in one place and waking up in another – having no permanent place to stay.
It was too much to absorb. All I really wanted was some bike know-how, like if there’s a different electric motor for bike. I just had to have a conversation piece or two for the next encounter with my little biker boy, something that had to do with his little biking hobby. Maybe I could just lecture him about this whole biker lifestyle.
